I come from Caracas-Venezuela, a beautiful country in South America, in the north by the Caribbean. I had the great opportunity to study languages and literature in one of the most prestigious colleges in Latin America, Universidad Metropolitana.
I have been teaching foreign languages for over 35 years: Spanish, French, and ESL. I have been teaching in Aiken for 22 years, and I love it. My students have been wonderful and enjoy learning Spanish! I am married to Ronald Jefferson, a wonderful Georgia man. I am a proud mother of two adorable daughters who are already married. They are great professionals. Barbara is a journalist, and Brenda is an accountant with an MBA. Barbara currently works for the day care here at TCCA, and Juliana, my granddaughter, attends 4th grade. We are blessed to be here together. My youngest, Brenda, lives in Malaga, Spain.
As a foreign language teacher, I think that the first stages of language acquisition require rich auditory, verbal, visual, kinetics, tactile, and musical learning experiences. Therefore, I expose my students to the new vocabulary through flashcards, songs and rhymes, storytelling, spelling games, interactive activities on the Smart-board and the computers, the cultural aspects of the language, and much more. In this way, their communicative proficiency is developed by listening, speaking, reading, and writing, so they build fluency in the foreign language. Once the students know how to write, they keep the written materials in their folders.
